Dilip Kumar Roy was the son of Dwijendralal Roy or D.L Roy, the famous Bengali poet who wrote many patriotic songs and drama. He was an accomplished singer himself. Dilip was already in Cambridge when Subhas joined him there. On his return, Dilip was more attracted towards mysticism and shunned politics while Subhas was attracted towards politics. Dilip lived with Sri Aurobindo in Pondicharry and often asked Subhas to join him there. Dilip saw in Subhas a Yogi, a mystic. Dilip became a sannyasi in his later life and spent time in Hardwar.
