Master Da Surjya Sen and Chattogram Revolution

Surjya Sen passed out BA from Calcutta University in 1918. After passing out he became a teacher in the Chattogram National School. He was a teacher in Mathematics. He did not interact much but became a very popular teacher - Masterda. Surjya Sen was devoted towards Indian independence movement. He set up a devoted group of youth that included Ambika Chakrabarty, Julu Sen, Nirmal Sen etc. He and his students took advantage of the Non cooperation movement to secretly organize the revolutionary army. They took advantage of the movement to coordinate with every revolutionary group that was active like Jugantar and Atmonnnati Samity. The revolutionaries joined the Bengal Volunteers group of Hemchandra Ghosh to further strengthen the revolutionary activities in a military way. Shyamji Krishna Varma

Shyamji Krishna Varma, born in 1857, studied in Cambridge and was born in Kutch Mandavi. He was greatly learned and mastered Sanskrit. He was inspired by the ideals of Swami Dayananda Saraswat and participated in Arya Samaji movement. He was selected as one of the trustees of Arya Samaj in 1884. He got his B.A degree from Oxford in 1879 and came in close contact with Prof. Monier Williams. In 1883 he represented India in the Berlin Conference of the Orientalists. He also became a Deewan of a no. of princely states but did not get along with the British authorities. He also served as a lawyer in Bombay High Court in 1885. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born to Damodar Savarkar and Yashoda Savarkar on 28 May 1883, in Bhagur, Nasik. His parents died at a very young age and his responsibilities were borne by Ganesh Savarkar, his eldest sibling. Savarkar did his schooling from the local village and at the age of eighteen he got married to Yamunabai. He graduated from Fergusson College in Pune and with the help of his father in law he went to study Law in England, in Gray's Inn College in London. Lala Hardayal

Lala Hardayal was born in Delhi in 1884 and was educated from the St. Stephen's College. He graduated from Punjab University and was awarded a scholarship in the Government College, Lahore. He stood first in M.A in English Literature and was given a state scholarship of pound 200 a year by the Government of India. He entered St. John's college in Oxford in 1905. In 1907 he quit his studies and was associated with Shyamji Krishna Varma. Hardayal had differences of opinion with Shyamji and he arrived in America in 1911. He was appointed as a lecturer in Indian philosophy in the Stanford University. He was dismissed from Stanford University on grounds of his involvement in revolutionary activities.
